The villa's private pool runs along a pale deck beside the white pergola, with a wall of dark lava stone closing off the garden behind it and the volcanic hills around Yaiza rising beyond. It's a saltwater pool, heated and open all year, and it has its own cover.
The pool at El Palmital curves across a green lawn, with a shallow, beach-style edge that slopes gently into the water under tall palms. On Abama's clifftop, three heated pools are open to every guest all year, out of seven spread through the gardens. The Lagoon Pool, the largest, curves between palms at the heart of the Citadel. The Persian Garden Pool sits among the terracotta, Moorish-style buildings looking over Abama bay, and the Serenity Pool, for ages 13 and up, faces the golf course.
From November to mid-April, the three outdoor pools at Sunprime Atlantic View are heated to around 25°C, and they stay open all year. Together they add up to more than 700 m² of water, at 222, 239 and 289 m², set in a palm garden below the white suite blocks. Some pools have wide walk-in steps, and the Prime Pool Suites open straight onto the water.
Every villa at Opal has its own pool, curved into a lawn right in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, so from the water you look straight back into the living room. Pale stone edges the pool, the villas are faced in dark volcanic stone and orange render, and bare hills rise behind the garden walls.
White hotel blocks wrap around a curving pool at Coral Suites, with terracotta paving, palms at the edges and a poolside bar close at hand. It's outdoors, heated and open all year, with a shallow end for easing in, and the Nuevo restaurant looks straight over the water.
Six outdoor pools spread through the gardens of this resort by the sea in Meloneras. The one to find first is the infinity pool, its edge running out towards the Atlantic. Elsewhere there's a large lagoon-style main pool below the resort's twin church towers, a saltwater pool, a plunge pool and a kids' pool, plus a sandy beach area set among the palms.
At 1,255 m², the circular main pool is closer to a lagoon than a hotel pool, set in a palm garden with the hotel's curved white wings around it and the sea beyond. It's heated all year, to around 26-27°C in winter and 28-30°C in summer, and 1.5 m deep, with a patterned tiled floor that lights up at dusk.
Below the bare brown mountains of the Mogán valley, the resort wraps around its pool garden: two outdoor pools, each with a hot tub, and a separate children's pool. The main pool is saltwater, heated and open all year, with a shallow end for easing in.
Built into the volcanic cliff at Agaete, the hotel steps down in white terraces to two outdoor pools.
