The pool
Why this pool made the list
Below the bare brown mountains of the Mogán valley, the resort wraps around its pool garden: two outdoor pools, each with a hot tub, and a separate children's pool. The main pool is saltwater, heated and open all year, with a shallow end for easing in.
Loungers, umbrellas and towels are included, and the pool bar and the Pool Lounge handle drinks and light bites without you leaving your sunbed. Families are the core crowd, helped along by a kids' club and a daytime programme. The spa adds an indoor pool with water jets, a sauna and a Turkish bath, at extra cost. Worth knowing: heating is confirmed for the main pool, not for the children's pool.

The stay
Beyond the pool
The Radisson Blu sits on the edge of Puerto de Mogán, in Gran Canaria's south-west, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the beach and the harbour. Maspalomas is 18 km east and Gran Canaria airport 38 km away. Rooms and suites are bright and modern, and every one has a large balcony or terrace.
For dinner, the Larder Restaurant runs themed buffets and Filini serves an à la carte international menu. There's plenty to keep a family busy: the kids' club, a rock-climbing tower, tennis and volleyball courts and a running track, with snorkelling and diving in the area.
Worth knowing: the resort is set back from the seafront, so the beach is a short walk rather than a step from your room.

Is the pool heated in winter?
Yes: the main outdoor pool is saltwater, heated and open all year.
Is the spa pool included in the rate?
No: the indoor pool with water jets is part of the spa, which is charged separately.
Is it a good choice with children?
Yes: children of any age are welcome, with a children's pool, a kids' club and family activities through the day.
Palm Oasis is built around water. Two outdoor pools wind through a tropical garden of palms and volcanic rock, with waterfalls, hot tubs tucked into the rocks and a slide for the kids. The pools are heated in winter, the main one is open all year with a shallow end for easing in, and there's a separate children's pool.
Two outdoor pools sit in the palm garden between the resort and the sea near Arguineguín: a large free-form freshwater pool and, right beside it, a smaller saltwater pool that's heated and open all year. A shallow end makes easing in simple, and children get their own pool area.
The pool at El Palmital curves across a green lawn, with a shallow, beach-style edge that slopes gently into the water under tall palms. It's heated and open all year, which is exactly what you want from a Gran Canaria winter, and the low white bungalows with their red-tiled roofs sit close around it. A sunken seating area is set into the grass beside the water.
