The pool
Why this pool made the list
The villa's private pool runs along a pale deck beside the white pergola, with a wall of dark lava stone closing off the garden behind it and the volcanic hills around Yaiza rising beyond. It's a saltwater pool, heated and open all year, and it has its own cover.
Loungers and parasols wait on the terrace, pool towels are provided, and the outdoor dining area sits on the same terrace, so lunch and a swim run into each other. The pool is yours alone: no timetable, no sunbeds to claim. One thing to ask when you book: whether the pool heating is included in the rate. A good fit for a family or two couples chasing winter sun with a warm swim at the door.

The stay
Beyond the pool
Lava Dreams is a detached, single-storey villa of 160 m² in Yaiza, in the south of Lanzarote. Playa Blanca's beaches are about 10 minutes away by car, Timanfaya's Fire Mountains around 7 km, and Lanzarote airport 19 km. Parking is free and private, right at the villa.
Inside, three bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of them en suite) sleep up to six, around an open-plan living and dining room with glass doors onto the terrace. The kitchen is fully fitted, with an oven, dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine, and there's a washing machine, air conditioning and fast WiFi throughout. The garden and terrace face the mountains.
Worth knowing: the person checking in must be at least 20, and parties aren't allowed.

Questions people ask
Is the private pool heated?
Yes: the saltwater pool is heated and open all year. Ask when you book whether the heating is included in the rate.
How many people does the villa sleep?
Up to six, in three bedrooms with two bathrooms.
Can children stay?
Yes: children of any age are welcome and a cot is free for under-3s on request, but the person checking in must be 20 or over.
The beach is right there: Lava Beach sits on the promenade above Matagorda's dark volcanic sand, and its two freshwater pools curve between palms and white loungers just back from the sea. Both are heated all year, usually to around 26°C, and there's a shallow kids' pool beside them. Water massage loungers line part of the edge.
Each villa has its own outdoor pool, set into a lawn edged with flowering shrubs and a paved terrace. There's a shallow end for easing in, an outdoor shower beside the water, and the pool is open all year. Climb the outside stairs to the roof terrace and you look out towards the islands of Lobos and Fuerteventura.
Up on the hill above Puerto del Carmen, the pool terrace looks out past palms to the Atlantic. The main outdoor pool is open all year and heated in winter, and a small dynamic pool beside it adds a little waterfall and hydromassage jets, heated through the cooler months too. Some suites go further, with a private pool just off the terrace.
