The pool
Why this pool made the list
Four outdoor pools spread across the terraces between the resort's stepped white wings, with the Atlantic beyond the glass balustrades and Playa Bastián at the edge of the grounds. Two of them are heated and the main pool is open all year. One has an infinity edge facing the sea, and some suites have swim-up access straight from their terrace.
Loungers, parasols and pool towels are included, and the Calma pool bar keeps lunch close to the water. Yoga sessions use the ocean as their backdrop, and the spa adds a sauna, steam room, hammam and hot tub for cooler evenings. The resort is adults-only, for guests aged 16 and over, which makes it an easy pick for a child-free week of winter sun.

The stay
Beyond the pool
Radisson Blu Resort, Lanzarote sits on Avenida del Mar in Costa Teguise, with direct access to Playa Bastián and a golf course within 3 km. It's adults-only, for guests aged 16 and over, and pets are allowed, with charges that may apply.
Rooms are air-conditioned and pared back in white and pale wood, with a minibar, flat-screen TV and bathrobes, and some look over the pools or the sea. Breakfast is a buffet with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, Sesto Senso serves Italian food, and there's a coffee house and a snack bar too.
Worth knowing: only two of the four pools are heated, so if a warm swim matters in January, head for those. Parking on site is paid and can't be reserved, and there's an airport shuttle if you'd rather not drive.

Up on the hill above Puerto del Carmen, the pool terrace looks out past palms to the Atlantic. The main outdoor pool is open all year and heated in winter, and a small dynamic pool beside it adds a little waterfall and hydromassage jets, heated through the cooler months too. Some suites go further, with a private pool just off the terrace.
The beach is right there: Lava Beach sits on the promenade above Matagorda's dark volcanic sand, and its two freshwater pools curve between palms and white loungers just back from the sea. Both are heated all year, usually to around 26°C, and there's a shallow kids' pool beside them. Water massage loungers line part of the edge.
The villa's private pool runs along a pale deck beside the white pergola, with a wall of dark lava stone closing off the garden behind it and the volcanic hills around Yaiza rising beyond. It's a saltwater pool, heated and open all year, and it has its own cover.
