Solar panels heat the pool at Mana EcoRetreat, and it stays open all year. It's a curved saltwater pool with an infinity edge, set on a pale terrace inside a Lanzarote garden of lava-stone dry walls, palms and subtropical plants, with the white suites around it and volcanic hills on the skyline.
Loungers, parasols and pool towels are provided, and the retreat lends you a pareo for the pool and the beach. It's a small, adults-only place, so the terrace stays calm, and quiet hours run from 23:00 to 07:00. Worth knowing: if you're coming in the depths of winter, ask how warm the water is running before you plan on long swims. A good fit for couples after a slow week of winter sun.

Beyond the pool
Mana EcoRetreat is a restored Canarian farmhouse in Las Breñas, a village in Yaiza in the south of Lanzarote. Timanfaya's Montañas del Fuego are about 14 km away and the airport 25 km. Free private parking is available nearby.
The junior suites each have a private bathroom and their own terrace, with garden or mountain views. The one penthouse suite on the top floor looks out over the mountains and the sea to Fuerteventura, and Villa Makamae sleeps four adults in two bedrooms, with a full kitchen and a jacuzzi on its terrace. Breakfast is the retreat's passion: an organic, locally sourced menu with vegetarian and vegan options, and massages, yoga classes and private dinners can be arranged.
Here's the thing: check-in runs from 14:00 to 17:00 only, and the retreat asks you to tell them your arrival time in advance.

Four outdoor pools spread across the terraces between the resort's stepped white wings, with the Atlantic beyond the glass balustrades and Playa Bastián at the edge of the grounds. Two of them are heated and the main pool is open all year. One has an infinity edge facing the sea, and some suites have swim-up access straight from their terrace.
Up on the hill above Puerto del Carmen, the pool terrace looks out past palms to the Atlantic. The main outdoor pool is open all year and heated in winter, and a small dynamic pool beside it adds a little waterfall and hydromassage jets, heated through the cooler months too. Some suites go further, with a private pool just off the terrace.
Two long outdoor pools run down the middle of the hotel between rows of palms and white loungers, with the sea at the far end and the low white wings of the building on either side. One of them has an infinity edge, and the main pool stays open all year. Indoors, the wellness centre has a third pool: a heated pool under a blue-lit vaulted ceiling, with a sauna, a steam bath and sensation showers around it.
