The pool
Why this pool made the list
The heated freshwater pool wraps right around the main building, so the arcaded wings and palms are on one side of you and the gardens and the Atlantic on the other. It's outdoors, open all year and included in your stay, with sun loungers and umbrellas along its edges and a heated outdoor jacuzzi close by. Playa del Duque is about 300 metres away.
Indoors, the Spa Sensations wet area adds a hydrodynamic pool, a whirlpool bath, a cold plunge pool and a steam room, open 09:00 to 20:00. Here's the thing: spa access costs extra, so count the outdoor pool as the one you'll use every day. Guests in the Star Prestige rooms get their own pool terrace, and the Superior Sea-View Suite has a private pool. Adults only, so the water stays quiet by design.

The stay
Beyond the pool
JOIA El Mirador is a five-star, adults-only hotel on Avenida de Bruselas, right on the Costa Adeje seafront: Playa del Duque is a two-minute walk, the golf course is within 3 km and Tenerife South airport is about 18 km away. The 124 rooms are junior suites and suites in a colonial style, from 38 m² with a canopy bed and a dressing room up to a 103 m² two-room suite with a 59 m² terrace, all with a furnished balcony or terrace.
There are three restaurants: El Mirador for the buffet breakfast and dinner, La Pérgola à la carte on a poolside terrace, and El Cenador, a gourmet restaurant open only for dinner. La Tosca bar has live piano in the evenings. The spa covers over 1,000 m², with a hammam, a sauna and treatment rooms, and there's a gym with yoga classes.
Worth knowing: the Star Prestige area, with butler service and its own pools, is reserved for guests booked into those room categories. Free parking is on site but can't be reserved in advance.
