The pool
Why this pool made the list
From the pool terrace you look out over the rooftops of Puerto del Carmen to the sea. The pool belongs to the villa alone: a heated saltwater pool with rounded steps at one end, open all year and fitted with a pool cover. A painted mural runs along the terrace wall, and loungers line the paving around the water.
Pool towels, sun loungers and umbrellas are provided, and a curtained gazebo with a dining table sits a few steps from the edge, so lunch and a swim are never far apart. There's a barbecue and a table tennis table out here too. With the water heated and the pool open all year, it suits a winter-sun week as well as a summer one.

The villa's private pool runs along a pale deck beside the white pergola, with a wall of dark lava stone closing off the garden behind it and the volcanic hills around Yaiza rising beyond. It's a saltwater pool, heated and open all year, and it has its own cover.
Two small heated pools sit on the terraces between the white bungalows, both looking straight out over the Atlantic. The main pool is for adults; right beside it is a smaller children's pool with a shallow end and a planted island in the middle. Both are open all year, so a winter swim is on the cards too.
The beach is right there: Lava Beach sits on the promenade above Matagorda's dark volcanic sand, and its two freshwater pools curve between palms and white loungers just back from the sea. Both are heated all year, usually to around 26°C, and there's a shallow kids' pool beside them. Water massage loungers line part of the edge.
