Behind a white single-storey house in Ingenio, the garden is yours alone: a private saltwater pool, heated and open all year, set into a green lawn with the hills in view beyond the fence. Steps lead down into the water at one end, and after dark the underwater lights turn the tiles a bright turquoise.

Loungers and umbrellas wait on the lawn, pool towels are provided, and a wooden pergola shades a lounge corner right beside the water. The barbecue and outdoor dining table are a few steps away, so a long lunch can end with a swim. Because the pool is heated and never closes for the season, this works as a winter base as well as a summer one.

Villa Alto Arena is a one-bedroom house on a residential street in Ingenio, a town on the east side of Gran Canaria. The nearest beach, Playa del Burrero, is 6 km away, restaurants such as La Vicaría are about 1.2 km, and the Yumbo Centre in the south-coast resort area is around 31 km.

Inside there are 60 m² with a double bedroom, a living room with a sofa bed and a flat-screen TV, and a kitchenette with a dishwasher and washing machine. Air conditioning runs throughout. Outside you get the barbecue, an outdoor dining area, a sun terrace and free private parking on site, and pets are welcome on request at no extra charge.
