The pool
Why this pool made the list
Every room here has its own pool, set into a furnished terrace, and from the sea-view suites you look out over the rooftops of Chania towards the sea. It's water a few steps from your bed, for a morning dip or a swim after dark. Down in the spa there's a second option: a heated indoor saltwater pool with water cascades, beside a large jacuzzi.
Breakfast can be brought to your terrace, so the day starts at the edge of your own pool. When the evening cools, the indoor pool takes over, with loungers along its edge and soft lighting at night. Here's the thing: the terrace pools aren't confirmed as heated, so outside summer the indoor pool is your warm swim. Worth knowing: spa access may carry a charge, so ask when you book.

The stay
Beyond the pool
Lagon sits in Halepa, a residential district above Chania with views over the city and the bay. The city centre is under 2.5 km away, Koum Kapi Beach about 2 km, and Chania airport 11 km. There's free private parking on site.
The rooms are white and minimal, from 21 m² garden-view doubles to 45 m² sea-view suites with a separate living room, and each has a furnished terrace and a hydromassage shower. Breakfast is à la carte from 08:00 to 11:00, in the restaurant or in your room, and an à la carte restaurant serves Mediterranean lunch and dinner. There's a bar too.
The spa adds two private areas with a hammam and a Finnish sauna, a treatment room using Apivita products and a gym. It's adults only, with a minimum age of 18. Not for everyone: the old town is a walk downhill, and the climb back is steep enough that many guests take a taxi.

Questions people ask
Does every room at Lagon have a private pool?
Yes: every room type, from the garden-view doubles to the sea-view suites, comes with its own pool on the terrace.
Is there a heated pool?
The indoor saltwater pool in the spa is heated and open all year. The terrace pools aren't confirmed as heated.
Can children stay at Lagon?
No, it's an adults-only hotel and the minimum age for check-in is 18.
Two outdoor pools curl through the gardens between the hotel and the beach, with the sea beyond the loungers. The White Sand Lagoon Spiral is 1.4 m deep, and the Tropical Green Lake, 1.55 m deep, is designed to be accessible for guests with reduced mobility. Both run with the hotel season, from 15 April to 9 November. Inside the Coral Wellness spa there's a heated indoor pool, 1.2 m deep, beside a hot tub.
Spinalonga and its Venetian fortress sit just across the water, and the pools of Domes of Elounda step down the hillside towards the sandy beach of Driros. Families get their own outdoor pools with a shallow kids' pool, there's an adults-only pool, the 16+ Chora complex has a pool with the closest view of the island, and the spa has an indoor seawater pool. Many suites, residences and villas add a private pool; the rest have an outdoor hot tub.
Water is everywhere at Lyttos Beach. A long, curving outdoor pool runs between the hotel wings and the sand, a lane-marked pool is there for proper lengths, and an indoor heated pool sits under glass for cooler days. Along the seafront, some ground-floor rooms and junior suites have a private pool of their own, a few steps from the beach.
